HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN review

From my blog [link]
In theaters now, but also on-demand, HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN is part Grindhouse, part Clockwork Orange, and all bad-ass in-your-face creative buckshot! I'd wager it's better then Machete and Black Dynamite put together...

The film is pretty special in that not only was it born from a fake Grindhouse trailer contest, but it actually delivers, and then some, a pitch perfect love letter to all the best of video era schlock, complete with 80's straight to video action star Rutger Hauer, as the titular hobo (who could've mailed in his performance here, but he's great). Our "hobo" rides the rails and only wants to save up enough in his coin sock for a lawn mower and another chance at life, but fate has brought him to a city just this side of hell, and pushes him to dig deep and invest in some pump action justice.

Pedofile santas, brazen pimps, a hooker with a heart of gold, and a family clan more sinister and twisted than any imagined, running rough shod over it all, must all face the force that is Hobo with a Shotgun. A simple down on his luck tramp turned wild bear with a taste for human flesh. Oh yeah, it's on. Not for the squeemish, the easily offended, or most anyone, but for those that like the crazy-shit-dial cranked to 11, run to the cinema with brown paper bag beverages, Hobo with a Shotgun will make you howl and squeal with delight... deliverance style!!!

Truly inspired and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Been dying to see this since the trailer popper up.

I agree with Machete. The first 10 minutes were just so insanely ridiculous that the rest of the movie never kept up.

Yeah, when I saw that opening, I was spazzing, but alas it was the only part that was geared like Grindhouse...

And on another note: you know Quentin Dupieux, maker for "Rubber" is also Mr. Oizo? [link] best known for this here. He had another movie made that is looking like the promisingest thing ever BUT the publisher holds it back for NO REASON :D
May introduce you: Steak [link]
(the actors are all from Daft Punk's label like Busy P, Sebastian Tellier and such)

lol
you must have seen that I reviewed Rubber on my blog too?
I had no idea, that's HI-larious...
I saw Steak on his IMDB but had never heard about it...
yep, looks good.
I know I saw he's working on a couple new movies already, so we should get more good stuff one way or the other.

Nice! I like that this movie is after this one [link] - there was a grindhouse trailer contest going with robert Rodriguez as the initiator. Pretty boss!

Yeah... been hearing about it forever, and it's way better than the first trailer, which is amazing in itself!

Definitely looking forward to this! I saw Machete and it was total crap. Black Dynamite, however, is something that NEEDS to be seen!

Well, I really like Machete, and really need to see it again, because after the insane opening sequence (and the impossible pace of Planet Terror) I was a bit let down. I really liked it though, and want to see if it reads better on the second viewing.

Black Dynamite, I was pretty let down by. It was fun, and a great concept, but it wasn't as funny or cool as it could've been.

HwaS delivers the goods!

As a huge fan of blaxploitation films, I thought Black Dynamite just hit on every level. I had high hopes going in, and those were blown away.

Machete was a letdown for me because, as a Danny Trejo fan, I felt here is a man who deserves a movie, and he's sleepwalking through the whole thing. It had a couple great scenes, and Steven Seagal was just nuts, but it just felt like the novelty wore off really fast.

HwaS just looks nuts. And I remember the trailer from years back. Just looks like a great time, and I can't wait to see it!

Ya know, I'm not too well versed in Blaxploitation films, familiar sure, but maybe it had stuff that you can't fully appreciate without a more intimate knowledge... since it is more of a parody. It was fun though.

Machete, to me, it didn't feel like Trejo was sleepwalking (he is in his mid/late 60's), just that the movie itself was a bit sleepy... by being in keeping with 70's cinema tone and pace (whereas Planet Terror made use of meta editing/plotting to strip the movie of anything that didn't propel it forward).

HwaS feels like a genuine old school video, but with gobs of crazy stuff always happening for our 21st century minds... ;)
